  2. Floor second: Lift the deck if possible and fit PIR between joists on battens; where lifting isn't realistic, an insulated overlay (thin PIR + T&G board) costs a little ceiling height but transforms cold floors.

The condensation warning: Insulation without a vapour barrier moves the dew point into the wall — the result is damp lining, black mould and rotting studs a winter later.
