Yorkshire Log Cabin Builders

Yorkshire Log Cabins builds log cabins using the traditional hand scribed Scandinavian saddle notch technique. Logs average 300mm in diameter and are sourced from FSC certified British forests. Other materials are bought from British sources where possible. The lateral cut can be insulated with sheep's wool. During construction, pockets are cut for electrical sockets and logs are drilled for hidden wiring.

Plans are drawn up that can be submitted to the planning department where required. A 50-year-old Coles Hydra Speed crane named Brutus, fully restored, is used to move logs and materials. The company builds log cabins for applications including garden offices, camping-glamping cabins, fishing-hunting lodges, craft shops, and ticket-information offices for rural or ecological enterprises.

Traditional log cabin construction is the focus of this Pudsey business, based on Waterloo Rd in Leeds and open weekdays from 8am to 5pm, closed at weekends. The build process runs from logs arriving at the yard through bark stripping, cutting and shaping, with the finished cabin described as solid and constructed using established techniques rather than mass production.

A distinction is drawn between genuine log-built cabins and machined, factory-produced timber structures. The Waterloo Rd premises and weekday hours mark this out as a specialist log cabin operation in the Leeds area.
